The location is convenient. The disclosure and response process was not.
A planned power shutdown is manageable when guests can make an informed choice. I made a non-refundable booking for a working stay, arrived during the shutdown, and discovered that normal room use—electricity, air-conditioning and Wi-Fi—was unavailable.
The hotel had sent one message through Booking.com. My concern is that the practical impact was not clear when I chose the room, and no direct follow-up was made despite my planned arrival falling inside the outage window.
What happened
The times below come from the hotel notice and Booking.com records; approximate arrival details are from my account.
The booking
The reservation was made through Booking.com. A maintenance notice later appeared among several booking messages.
The power goes off
The hotel’s notice scheduled an eight-hour electrical shutdown, from 10:30am until 6:30pm.
I arrive
I arrived expecting to work from the hotel. The guest rooms had no normal electricity, air-conditioning or Wi-Fi.
Cancellation requested
I asked to leave without penalty because the material limitation had not been clear when I chose the non-refundable rate.
Request declined
The property declined the request to waive the cancellation fee. The booking remained confirmed.
Breakfast offered
Booking.com later recorded an offer of two breakfasts and the option to shorten the stay. Neither addressed the lost working afternoon.
Can a room remain “non-refundable” when a planned, material loss of power was not clear when the guest chose it?
That is the central question raised by this experience, not a legal conclusion. In practice, the property declined the request to waive the cancellation fee.
Documentary evidence

These items come from the stay or the associated Booking.com record. Personal and unrelated guest information has been removed.

The electricity notice
The in-room letter states that power would be unavailable from 10:30am to 6:30pm on 10 August 2026.

The cancellation decision
The free-cancellation request was submitted at 2:33pm. The property declined it minutes later.

The work in progress
Tools and materials were left in a guest corridor during the renovation period.

The reception desk
Guest-facing paperwork was left openly visible. The document area has been permanently obscured here for privacy.

These are summaries of third-party reports, not independently verified facts. Recent reviews were prioritized; older reviews from the property’s previous Four Points/Sheraton operation were not used to establish current patterns.
For balance
What this review is—and is not
This is one documented stay, supported by hotel notices, Booking.com records and photographs. It is not a claim that every room, employee or visit is the same.
Many reviewers praise the Sukhumvit location. Several mixed reviews also praise individual staff, even while describing room or process failures. Those positives are real context; they simply do not erase what happened here.
Automated conversation transcripts were used only to identify points worth checking. They were not treated as reliable quotations.
